2020 was a tumultuous year for everyone in this community and we need your help now more than ever. No one could have ever anticipated the devastating impact and domino effect of the COVID-19 pandemic and coming back to normal will likely take years. During the early stages of the pandemic, we were fortunate to help our essential workers on the front lines by providing emergency childcare at Children’s Corner, our childcare center for Morristown Medical Center staff. Our staff showed up each day, ready to care for the children despite the many unknowns of this virus during the earlier stages. We are so grateful for their dedication during such a tough time.  During this time we applied for and received a Payment Protection Plan loan which enabled us to continue paying our childcare workers and full-time staff who were not able to work due to the mandated closures. Along with the staff at Children’s Corner, the YMCA Administrative Staff continued to work, listening to the daily briefings and updating our membership along the way. On June 15th, we were given permission to reopen our other childcare center, the Richard F. Blake Children’s Center. We were thrilled to reopen and see our families, but sadly, only half of our children enrolled in both centers have returned. On September 8th, we reopened the GMYMCA with hopes that many members would return. Prior to reopening, we spent a small fortune on cleaning supplies and signage in order to follow the new protocols and procedures set forth by the CDC and local Health Departments.

Unfortunately, even with all of these positive precautions, less than 25% of our membership, approximately 875 members, have returned. What was once a bustling facility, is now eerily quiet. The damage suffered not just by the GMYMCA but by our entire community is incomprehensible and we need your financial help now more than ever. Even though our doors were closed, our mission to the community remains. Countless neighbors count on us for a myriad of reasons. From exercise to education, from aerobics to advocacy, from fitness to financial assistance, the Y doesn’t just strengthen our bodies, it strengthens our minds and communities. The Y is so much more than a gym. It’s a cause dedicated to youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility. For 147 years, we’ve been proud to help our neighbors learn, grow, and thrive.  When you support our Annual Campaign, 100% of your donation provides scholarships and financial aid to those struggling neighbors for childcare assistance, summer camp, swim lessons, before and after school care, and so much more. Join us in keeping our mission alive for another 147 years. Won’t you please consider a donation to help your neighbor? TOGETHER WE CAN ACHIEVE SO MUCH MORE!
